Mercury & Venus
Mercury and Venus have orbits that lie inside that of our own planet, between us and the Sun, such that, as viewed from Earth, they never appear to stray too far from the Sun’s influence. Bound together in space with the Sun, these two inner (referred to as “inferior”) planets have particular and individual cycles with periods of retrograde motion that are very different not only from each other but also from the outer planets of the solar system.
As the Sun’s longest standing and closest companion Mercury, the winged messenger of the Gods and that most elusive of personal planets, orbits the Sun so very closely that the two cannot make any Ptolemaic aspect one to another. So how does vital communication take place between them? How does Mercury carry the “word” to and from his Lord and Master? We take a fresh look at Mercury in his somewhat unpredictable cycle and see how effective our own Mercury is in fulfilling his primary role in support of our solar purpose.
Venus, the unsurpassed queen of the twilight skies, dazzles and bewitches us for much of the year as that most brilliant of morning and evening stars, slipping gracefully from view only briefly before reappearing on the opposite horizon. No wonder that for some long time our ancestors thought this was two different stars. But what hidden secrets lie beneath that seemingly serene surface? We explore how Venus in the sky reveals herself as Venus in a chart.
